Captain Beavheart

Restless and relentlessly iconoclastic, Captain Beavheart emerged half a century ago from the psychedelic wetlands of sixties rock with one paw firmly in free jazz and another in the Delta blues. His expressionistic output both musical and on canvas cut a clean divide among both critics and the public. The majority heard only noise and confusion in the music and decried his paintings as childlike scribblings, while those few who engaged and contemplated his unconventional works decried him a dam genius of subversion and experimentalism. More influential than popular, he retired to a riverbank in northern Durham and now doles out affordable, farmer-centric wines to the community from his habitat at Wine Authorities wine shops.
